Neue Pinakothek

Aug 17, 2011 by

Our last day in Munich, we went to the Neue Pinakothek. What does it mean? It’s a museum which contains 19th century paintings, opened in 1853. The museum’s exhibits consist primarily of German, French and English paintings dating from 1780 to 1910.

And take a close look of this one below. This painting named The Entry of King Othon of Greece into Nauplia, 1835.

I know it was too small. Then try this one, do you see the Thai flag?

Hehehe! no retouch na!

Schloss Nymphenburg

Aug 16, 2011 by

I visited Nymphenburg Palace on my third day in Munich. Jay went to his climbing course so I planned to explored some more of Munich. Lucky that the palace was near the place we stayed so I could take a walk there. It didn’t look like I would take a long walk in my map but it actually took me around 45 mins. to get there (I got lost a bit in between). Here are some pictures on the way.

Yes, it is that far. Do you see the palace right there?

I finally got there and this place was sooooo big! It’s like a whole town.

Ok here is a picture from above.

After the birth in 1679 of Maximilian Emanuel, the heir to the throne, his father, Duke Ferdinand Maria, presented his wife with a suburban palace. The queen named it Nymphenburg (Nymph’s Castle).

Later, buildings were added around the courtyard fronting the palace. In the 1800s the formal French gardens were converted into a landscaped park incorporation the existing canals.

The walls and ceilings of the palace halls are covered with colorful paintings framed with stuccowork. The finest is the ceiling of the Steinerner Saal, in which mythological scenes are shown in idyllic garden settings.

Upon entering the palace, visitors walk into a spacious hall with windows on either side decorated in a resplendent Rococo style.

The Royal bedchamber in the south wing of the palace is decorated with fine paintings and filled with mahogany furniture, including the Royal Bed, where Ludwig II was born.

The oldest part of the palace is the central section, built in 1675 in the form of an Italianate villa.

Here I stopped by a bit for a drink and some snacks. The place is in a garden on the right side of the palace.

Then I walked to a garden on the left side of the palace to visited another building, Amalienburg. It was a small hunting lodge. Its circular hall was covered with fine shellwork.

Then I walked to the front part of the palace where I found another musuem, Marstallmusuem. It contains coaches, carriages and sleighs that once belonged to Bavarian rulers, including Lugwig II’s coronation coach, and portraits of his favorite horses. Have a look at the pictures below, these things were all crazy!

I just couldn’t stop looking at this painting. How cool is this? They really used these things some hundred years ago. Oh my!

I know I took so many pictures. If you were there, you would do the same!

There were actually many many more coaches and sleighs that were crazy crazy amazing but before we dream of coaches tonight, I moved on to old porcelain building. They produced fine porcelain since 1761. I didn’t take many pictures here but this dining table was just soooo beautiful.

And a porcelain vase that has Monalisa on it.

It took me five hours for my palace tour today. There were still many buildings inside the palace that I didn’t walk to.. well, let’s keep them for the next time. I will end this post with this painting below. I was standing in front of it for some times and it blowed my mind away. That was real. Those people were living here before and that was how things look like in the past. How do you feel?

Thank you for the lonely planet travel guide book for all the information.

Here we go!

Aug 9, 2011 by

Last week we went hiking again. Yes, again! No surprise right? Because I’m together with a hiking fanatic. This time I was equipped with all the hiking tools, professional! :)
I know I know I was so brave, hehehe. I took all my energy and went up that mountain. Please be proud of me everyone!

We were on the way there. Oh, my!

Look! I’m crossing the river! with my new waterproof hiking shoes, woohoo. I’m so proud of myself. hehehe That was just the beginning. No pictures on the way up because we were busy walking and taking a rest (It was me who rested all the time.) and then kept walking. I tried my best but eventually there were so many (too many) old people took over me all the time. I was wondering how they could do that at their age. Anyway, I kept walking and finally I was there!!! Yeahhhh thank you thank you!

And fooood to cheer me up!

More pictures are coming soon.
